A similar deal is in the Amateur Radio rules, Title 47, Code of Federal
Regulations, Part 97...where an amateur radio operator has "emergency or
priority traffic" when:
1) The information involves the safety of life, or the protection of
property.
2) The amateur radio operator is himself, "in distress"...or is assisting
another station "in distress"...where no provision of the rules
prohibits the amateur radio operator of making known his location,
situation, and using whatever means is necessary to obtain assistance.
I used this when I was a witness to an aggravated assault incident last
summer...and used my amateur radio unit to summon help, etc. That has now
gone to trial, and I've already made a written and telephone deposition...
but have to go to Orlando next week to physically testify. This is NOT my
idea of a Florida vacation!!
