Hi, Paul. PE> PE>> Hi Frank. You sent 4 netmail messages, but you failed to put a PE> PE>> "To: xxx" in front of them, so they all defaulted to garbage, PE> FM> So what were the 4 messages, and where are they now? PE>Make that 3 messages, and I see you have resent them correctly Yeah, figured out which ones they were. Funny thing is, as you know I put all my outgoing messages with the incoming ones in tenmin.pkt. Something in the tinypoint/olx combination changes the To: in netmail to From: . For these ones, it added a From: line, with garbage - From: 5966:2121/0.24 At least the point was correct! PE>this time. As for where they go, I really don't know. They PE>were destined for Zone 53, and I don't know if my system sends PE>them to Dave Hatch or not. And if it does, I don't know what PE>he does with them. He seems to pass things on just like I do. PE>Sometimes someone is running some software which rejects PE>messages like that, but otherwise, I really don't know. PE> FM> Why did they default to garbage - don't tell me, another bloody bug PE> FM> somewhere along the line. PE>What default would you like? I'm going to change it to the PE>user's own address. There is no default at the moment, so PE>you just get uninitialized variables, which seem to tend to PE>be 53! That sounds like a good default. Other systems I use actually send you a message with something like "The following could not be delivered due to..." and then append the original message. PE> PE>> and none of them will get very far at all. I will modify PE> PE>> QWK2PKT soon so that it defaults to your own address, so you PE> PE>> can amuse yourself by sending mail to yourself. BTW, if you PE> PE>> ran a proper point system you wouldn't need to stuff around PE> PE>> like this. FREQ MINPOINT.* and take it from there. It's a PE> PE>> FAR better way to do things. BFN. Paul. Every time I freq MINPOINT.* I get MYSYS1.TXT. That's all, just that file. PE> FM> Well why the fuck wasn't I told about this in the first place? *I* PE>don't PE> FM> have time to be stuffing around installing new bits of software, and PE> FM> understanding their bugs & quirks (= bugs), all the time. I just want PE>a PE> FM> stable system that will send messages to people and get their replies. PE>If you want a stable system, you should follow MINPOINT **TO** OK. PE>**THE** **LETTER**. If you touch a single thing thinking "I PE>know better than this Paul Edwards dickhead", you will be up PE>shit creek real quick. A proper point uses much more stable OK, OK! PE>software than the cobbled-together C programs and Telix scripts PE>that you are now running. As to why I didn't tell you - you PE>didn't ask. The first thing I knew about it was Brenton PE>ringing me up asking what your point number was going to be and PE>when will it be ready! :-) As to why Brenton + co use this PE>crappy software instead of far superior software specifically PE>designed for email, you'll have to ask them. I had MINPOINT PE>long before TinyPoint, and the others will vouch that I did PE>everything I could to get them to switch to it from their PE>brain-dead QWK readers. If you're running OS/2, then get OK, I'd never heard of it. Brenton was responding to my plea to get me going as a point real quick, because AvTech had just been deleted from my (then) regular board. And I had seen posts from you in the past suggesting that people freq tinypoint, never any mention of minpoint. PE>MINPOS2.* instead. BFN. Paul. I don't. :-) Regards, FIM. * * Se non e vero, e molto ben trovato. @EOT: ---* Origin: Pedants Inc. (3:711/934.24) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
