PE> For the same reason that Dave Hatch doesn't remap messages to PE> "Paul Edwards" sent to 3:711/809.4 to me at 3:711/934.9 instead. RS> Nope, that has nothing whatever to do with it. The Fido addressing RS> system has allowed for 3D addresses forever. Nothing to do with why RS> remaps are useful on a BBS which has points. Nothing. PE> WRONG!!!! RS> Dont get too excited. PE> 3D was added as an afterthought. The header only has net + node PE> information. An INTL kludge was added to handle 3D, then TOPT/FMPT PE> kludges were added to support 4D. RS> Yeah, yeah, but that was quite a separate issue to what we were RS> discussing, the detail of the addition of the POINT numbers. PE> Nope, you are saying I should remap stuff to "Rod Speed" at PE> 3:711/934.* to 3:711/934.2 in case someone is running old software PE> that doesn't support 4D addressing. Yep, with the secondary benefit of it getting to my correct point address even if some dork gets the point number wrong. Not that that is that likely. PE> Well you can equally well say that everyone in Australia should PE> have "Mark Kimes" in their remap list so that anyone who sends mail PE> to 100/102 (or whatever his address is), gets remapped to 1:100/102, PE> because it is obvious that the person who sent the message is using PE> older 2D software. Nope, thats missing my point that 4D came later. PE>> Go on Rod, admit that you're wrong YET AGAIN to the SAME PERSON!!! RS> Pathetic really |-) RS> I wasnt attempting a total history of addressing, just talking about RS> the point detail you flagrant nit picker and hair splitter you. RS> The Fido addressing system has allowed for 3D addresses forever. PE> I have requoted your statement for you. Whoopy do. PE> Go on Rod, just say "yes I was wrong when I said that" so that I can PE> add it to my quotes file. Go on Paul, apply your mind to what was being discussed and realise that we were discussing workarounds for the fact that 4D came later and that there is still some software in use out there which cant handle it. So remaps are useful. And have no downside at all, so whats the big deal ? And that if at all possible things as important as mail should fail safe, not just toss exceptions into black holes. --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
