Oooh, I know it's there all right.  It was the first toggle I went looking
for on the one you gave me.  However, I've never left a modem plugged into
the PSTN unless it was being used for its originally-intended purpose(s).

Before Barb found a way to stuff it, I used to leave the answering machine
'on' at critical times of the day, and, then sample the messages for
personal callers later.  Telemarketers cannot survive in a world where the
answering machine dominates.

We're spoiled now and have a cordless.  First response to an Optus caller:
"we're already signed up, thanks for calling[klunk]".  Response
to Tel$tra caller: "gimme a *free* cable installation? 
No?[klunk]".

What you say reminds me of the old AT&T joke tale.  Have you seen it?
