KJ>Cool! Humidity seems to sometimes set my conures off too, especially the KJ>cherry-heads. I hope yours are both fertile--two babies are always more KJ>fun than one! Gosh, I should expect eggs anytime from my mitreds and cherryheads then if humidity affects them! It is raining here EVERY day and the o her day it even HAILED (in FLORIDA!!!) the size of mothballs, half the size of icecubes!!! I had never seen hail here or anywhere. Scared teh crap outta me! Anyway it is humid here, very humid, and like I said is raining all the time and when it's not the air is so wet and humid you could cut it with a knife. I hope they DO do something this year. My doctor gave me the female cherryhead, ahe was a pet that had gotten unmanageable because tehy wouldn't clip her wings or make her stay in a cage at all and she ran the whole house. She would buzz and attack people from the air. I got a male from Howard Voren a couple years ago and they get along great. Just no eggs. How old were yours when they bred? I am not sure how old she is but he is probably three now. I am finding Aratingas taking longer to breed here, much longer than a couple of years old. I had a pair of white eyes that were imports that didn't lay egg one until I had had them five years. Yet I have had Red throateds (A. holochlora rubritorquis) where I didn't know how old the male was but the hen was about a year and a half. What are you finding? We don't raise Jendays but do raise Suns. I'd like to raise Jendays as it's one of the few that we haven't got or haven't raised. BTW, I saw a proven pair of Waglers for sale the other day and thought that that would be cool to get as there are not a lot of them around. Maybe we'll end up the "Procurers of the Obscure..." No, really, we're some of the few that have the wierd stuff that people don't want like Red Bellied Macaws. Well, my lories had two babies. Remember I had the ones die a while back? Now they have two and I think they are doing good. Looks like the parents are feeding them well this time rather than abandoning the chick and burying it under the shavings. Well, TTYL. BTW, are you going to the AFA convention? Wish I'd gone when it was in Fla, or when it was in New Orleans. I'm too afraid to fly to go to California. KJ>It'll be interesting to watch what happens here this summer, as we had KJ>central A/C installed last fall. Our basement is wonderfully cool and KJ>dry this year for the first time ever...I expect the cherries probably KJ>won't breed. I've opened both of the bird room windows, but the A/C is KJ>over-powering the small amount of air that's coming in. (Yes, all the KJ>basement vents are shut off, but the cool air comes back down the KJ>basement stairs...we need to figure out how to install a door at the KJ>top of the poorly designed stairwell opening that won't interfere with KJ>the kitchen when it's not closed.) KJ>TW>the first egg to be two weeks old ... not really sure as my "leave lone KJ>TW>method is still in place ... ie, no bed checking every day. I am oncern KJ>TW>as at the time of fertilization we had a lot of ruckus around here howi KJ>TW>the house and all ... and with *that* male being so skiddish. :( KJ>Well, you never know. You didn't think they'd get it right the last KJ>time either, and look at the surprise you got! KJ>TW>More Jendays? That's great! I assume that all is well and your aviary KJ>TW>still disease free ... (I know how you worry). KJ>I'm confident that we're "clean" here--I had these last two guys tested KJ>and got yet another negative. This is 3 years now that we've gotten no KJ>positive results. I'm still 'paranoid', and will remain a closed aviary, KJ>but I'm relaxing a little about the birds that are here. KJ>OH--btw, the two babies are both males. I figured that since I was KJ>sending in stuff to the lab anyway, I'd sex them at the same time. So KJ>now Rio & Paco's count is up to 7 male babies, and 2 females thus far KJ>(since 1993). KJ>TW>Agreed, 5 weeks is way too young to be weaned. But if you think that t KJ>TW>day one, the bird is *starting* to wean (this IS true), then somewhere KJ>TW>along the line a bird must show it's mother by some instinct that eanin KJ>TW>is approaching ... what better way than to shove it back to mom? KJ>I've never seen any evidence that this happens in the nestbox (no KJ>messes, nothing on the babies). I check the nest often enough that if KJ>this DID happen, I'd have seen it at least once or twice. KJ>TW>Mess aside, the regurgitation is a natural (involuntary) action ... oth KJ>TW>Natures way of saying something to you ... what do YOU hear? KJ> Lately I've been hearing "Find another hobby, one that doesn't KJ>puke on you!" KJ>TW>When Tinker regurgitated (~5 weeks), I did give (her?) baths she seemed KJ>TW>not mind if the water was the same temp as the food. In fact, I doubt KJ>TW>she even knew she was in water ... I used a towel to blot her and then KJ>TW>went back to the aquarium (no drafts). Took X2 time, but didn't have a KJ>TW>choice ... seems as though you don't either ... sigh ... KJ>I've been wiping them down with damp paper towels. They're mostly KJ>feathered now (everything but lower bellies), and what they get on each KJ>other wipes off more easily than it did off their down feathers. They KJ>still have a few 'crunchy' spots, but they're preening themselves (and KJ>each other) quite well now, so those are going away too. KJ>TW>Not heard anything of Reg. Not hidding. My service has been ON again / KJ>TW>OFF (mostly) again. I've posted at least a dozen messages within FIDO n KJ>TW>the last 6 months w/o a reply ... sigh ... VERY PLEASENT TO SEE YOUR KJ>TW>RESPONSE! KJ>It's good to have you back again. Fido has been VERY unreliable KJ>lately--messages are turning up missing all over the place. Quite KJ>frustrating sometimes. I have an address for Reg, but I'm not sure he's KJ>still there--it's from December, the last time I heard from him. I'm KJ>a little worried...
