I just returned home from seeing Ringo & The Roundheads at Irving
Plaza, a small club in NYC. I must say this was one of my all-time
favorite Beatle experiences. It was a great show.

We stood about 20 feet from the stage near the center. Upstairs in the

VIP section were Barbara and her nearly identical sister, Max Weinberg
and Little Steven from the E Street Band and the newly unemployed
Mickey Dolenz.

The consensus before the show was that we'd get an hour-long set
similar to what Ringo played on VH-1 Storytellers, with songs from the
new album replacing the then-new songs from that show. We were pretty
much right. He did do all of his lesser performed songs, but besides
the two new songs there was nothing he hadn't played live before. No
surprises. Here's the set list, as much in order as I can remember:

With a Little Help From My Friends (just the ending used at an intro)
It Don't Come Easy
Octopus' Garden (first time I've gotten to see this one)
Choose Love (the new single)
I Wanna Be Your Man (Ringo on drums)
Don't Pass Me By (Ringo starts on piano, and messes up)
Memphis in Your Mind
Bring Back the Beat (Ringo on mini drum kit)
Photograph
I'm the Greatest
Never Without You
Back Off Boogaloo
Boys

Ringo takes a break, leaving the Roundheads to play by themselves. He
said, "Just remember while the Roundheads are out here playing Beatle
songs, one of Them {the Beatles} will be in the dressing room."

You Can't Do That (Gary Burr on vocals)
Medley: Long Tall Sally/I'm Down/Oh Darling (Mark Hudson on vocals)

Ringo returns for:
Yellow Submarine
The now standard funny speech about walking off and coming back for an
encore.
"Usually at this time in the show the band runs off and hides in some
dark toilet and you pretend you don't know we're coming back. Well,
you know we're coming back. We know we're coming back......"
Act Naturally
With a Little Help From My Friends (Little Steven and Max Weinberg join

the band on vocal and drums respectively. We hoped that Dolenz would
join them, but no such luck).

Why Ringo took a break with just three song to go is beyond me.

The closest thing to a surprise was that:
A. He played stuff off his previous album (Ringo Rama), though it was
just the same two songs he played on tour.
B. He finally broke his own dumb rule against playing "Octopus'
Garden" and "Yellow Submarine" in the same show. He has no excuse to
not play OG on the next All-Starr tour.

The show was an hour and fifteen minutes. The sound was great. The
crowd was enthusiastic. Ringo was in good humor. When someone in the
crowd called out for "Devil Woman" Ringo replied, "This song is just
like 'Devil Woman.' It's called 'Act Naturally.'"

Another quip: "I've been a big shot so long I've forgotten how hot it
gets in these damn clubs."

Ringo never introduced the band, but I recognized Mark Hudson, Gary
Burr and Steve Dudas. There was also a bassist, keyboardist and
drummer.

A limited number of "signed" posters were available at the show for
$20, including a copy of the new CD. Not a bad deal since I didn't
pick up the new album yet. The signature was a silk screen, but it's a

quality poster and really only cost me $5.00.

A friend who is more interested in autographs than the actual show left

the show early to wait at the stage door. His efforts earned him two
Ringo autographs (to add to the infinite number in his collection
already).
