Currently on clearance sale at Radio Shack (or, at least, all the ones I've
been to in Tennesee) is the now-discontinued Pro-2026 100 channel base/mobile
scanner for $150.
I wasn't in the market for another scanner, but I'd been having some trouble
using my handhelds in the car, so I dropped by Radio Shack to check out their
universal cellular phone mounts, and made the mistake of glancing behind the
counter. Somehow, my brain convinced itself that it would be cheaper and
easier to buy a scanner designed to be mounted and used inside a vehicle than
to keep using my handhelds... :-)
Anyway, anybody know any mods for this scanner? I'd like to increase the
number of channels, but that's probably not possible. Opening up cellular or
other frequency bands is probably not possible, either, especially since the
date code is 12A5. So mainly I'm wondering if it's possible to increase the
scan speed or disable the keypress beep, or preferably just keep it from
going out the headphone jack.
(My first scanner, I think it was a Pro-27, had the keypress beep but if you
plugged in headphones, the beep continued to come out of the built-in
speaker. I could feed that thing through my amp and really blast, and still
not go deaf just from manually selecting a channel.)
