Yes, that BFO on the 818CS is REAL touchy.  One must fine tune that knob 
before getting a good signal.  And, it moves off frequency needing 
re-adjustment once in a while.  One of these days I'll save up enough for an 
NRD or another ICOM R71A.  Those are real nice sets.  Although, I've heard 
the Drake is also a good brand of radio.  Happy Holidays & Happy
