I agree 1,000%. Most businesses day to day use of the computer is not
internet related, but word processing, database and spreadsheet related.
If anything, the I-net is just another advertising media for them.
And for the very small ma & pa businesses, and there's a hell of a lot
of those, there is no place for the I-net in their day to day operation.
I'm finally on the I-net, but not as myself. I took a pre-paid year
on the net as payment for a program (I was made an offer I couldn't
refuse ). The irony is that the program was one I had written
many years ago. The minor changes needed to fit his needs only took
30 minutes max. As an alternative payment, I was offered a prepaid year on
the internet (value = 2x what I wanted for the program!), my choice
of provider, but (there's always a catch!), since his credit card was
going to pre-pay it (therefore _his_ tax credit), I had to be on as him.
So I took it. We felt that there was nothing illegal about this since
the provider software was going to be on my computer only (he's never seen
it) and I'm the only one using it. The idea of my name and his credit
card number didn't sit too well with either of us. So now I'm
hunting down all the FoxPro sites. As to who I am, check out a message
on MS's FoxPro Discussion Site (Visual Foxpro group) called "append
blank" - yes, I'm still trying to find a solution to that problem
I mentioned .
Take Care
