Greetings, All!!
I'll tell y'all - there hasn't been much sleep the LAST 4 days!! -
Hurricane Erin roared through here, coming ashore about 50 Miles to the
South of us, placing us on the "nasty" north and East sides of the
Cyclone.! Power went out in heavy winds/Rain Tuesday night, as we
prepared to evacuate the Island. HOWEVER, (is procrastination a PPS
trait?? ), we waited too long, and they shut down all the Bridges
back to the main-land for high Winds! :-( The Wife and I and our
17-year-old boarded up the Living Room and Master Bedroom Windows as best
we could and huddled in the MBR all night.. (Along with the Cat and dog!
) - We all survived Ok, with only a few Trees down around the house,
and a Privacy Fence that has lost it's privacy all over!! HOWEVER - it
took until TONIGHT (Friday PM) to get power back! I have a 4 KW Gas
Generator (only used 3 Hours back in New Hampshire in 1987, and never
ran since (There's that procrastination, again! ), so it started
great and ran for all of 2 minutes as the Rust from inside the Fuel tank
shook off and went down the Fuel Line!! (KNOW i shoulda run it every
year or so.. Hmmm..  ) 8 cleanings in the Rain under a Tarp got
enough Juice to keep the Fridge cool enough to keep the Wife's Insulin
happy. BUT, I'm gonna get a new Fuel tank for that thing (when i get a
Round Tuit!! ).. Next week.. I promise!!
My LEG has been KILLING me during this, both in fact - I couldn't wear
the Brace too well climbing ladders with plywood and Screws, so did
without it.. Trying to sleep in this heat and humidity these 4 days,
coupled with the persistent Leg pain has had my wounded ticker doin'
flips, as well.. Soooo, although this wasn't as scary as the time we
were out on the Bahama Banks in our Sailing home when TS Bob hit, it
WILL be remembered!!
