Malaysian 747 jet skids off runway; no one injured
KUALA LUMPUR - March 7, 1998 9:12 p.m. - A Malaysian Airlines
Boeing 747 from Tokyo skidded when landing in Kuala Lumpur on Satur-
day evening and came to a halt on the grass at the end of the
runway, the airline said in a statement.
None of the 318 passengers or 21 crew was hurt and the plane was
not damaged, according to the statement, issued by the official news
agency Bernama late on Saturday.
After the landing at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang
outside the capital, the jumbo jet was positioned at the parking bay
at 7:35 p.m. (1135 GM) and baggage taken off.
The statement gave no reason for the incident but said it had
been raining.
"All is alright. There is also no damage to the aircraft,"
Bernama quoted Deputy Transport Minister Mohamed Ali Rustam, who
had arrived at Kuala Lumpur's international airport on a domestic
flight at around the same time, as saying at the site.
Malaysian Airlines officials were not available for comment.
