DM> Why didn't devolopers have time to make the most of it? They realised

DM> suck, but it was a preety damn good case of wrong place and the wrong

DM> It was released in the 16 bit reign. Nobody beat out the snes and the

There are many reasons why the Atari Jaguar didn't work out and none of
them are because the hardware "sucked." Some of these reasons are common
sense theories, some are fact and some are a combination of the two.
     1. As far as third party support goes, with the almost
"dictatorship-like rule" that Nintendo and Sega had over third parties, it
was very difficult for companies to break away to another platform. I'm sure
that many third parties were threatened with the loss of their developer's
license for the Nintendo and Sega systems if they were to develop games for
the Jag. I'm sure that 99% of the third parties were too scared to take a
chance with a new system for fear of losing money if it didn't work out and
not having the sure thing of making money with the Nintendo and Sega systems
to fall back on. If you don't think this kind of thing happens, just take a
look at Sony and their exclusive deals like with Tomb Raider 2.
     2. Atari didn't have enough money to begin with to properly market a
system of any kind.
     3. Poor management at Atari meant that what little money they had was
not well spent.
     4. A new system takes time until it is programed to the best of it's
ability and with only enough money to barely stay afloat, some games had to
be cut back or rushed to market too soon.

There are other reasons besides this, but these are the main ones as far
as I'm concerned. Anybody care to debate with me or add any of their own
theories and/or facts?
