Yoo Hoo, Mouseketeers!
Thanks to the efforts of Harv Laser and Steve Proctor at CalWeb,
the FidoNet Disney "echo" (newsgroup) and the calweb.fantasears
newsgroup is now feeding into CalWeb's Amiga Zone. You can read
messages on those newsgroups, reply to them, and post new messages.
You must be a paying member of CalWeb to access these two
newsgroups. To get on CalWeb call 1-800-509-9322. Mention me
(Rich Koster) and the FANtasEARS Disney Fan Club when you call
and there won't be any new account signup fee! You'll only be
be billed the normal $19.95 a month charge. So if you haven't
already, please join us, and say the magic words "The FANtasEARS
sent me!"
If you are a paying member of CalWeb you are entitled to the Amiga
Zone "for free" but you don't automatically get it. If you aren't
already in the Zone, write to ask for it.
You can either write to Harv at harv@calweb.com (from your CalWeb
address only, so he knows it's legit) or you can ask support and
support will ask Harv to open an Amiga Zone account for them.
You will be able to get into the Amiga Zone via telnet to
amigazone.com ("telnet amigazone.com") with your own Zone login
name and password which is totally separate from the CalWeb name
and password.
Here's how to get to the Disney newsgroups from the Zone, with
instructions courtesy of Harv:
If you go to the [j]oin menu in the Zone's Wildcat interface, and
then [L]ist, you will see:
0. All conferences 1. Amiga Zone Conferences
2. Amiga Mailing Lists 3. Amiga Usenet Newsgroups
4. Vendors Forums 5. CalWeb Newsgroups
6. General Newsgroups 7. Toaster-LightWave
8. Amiga Fidonet Echos 9. Other Fidonet Conferences
Select 9 and you'll see this menu:
450. Disney Conference
That is the FidoNet Disney Echo being carried on CalWeb's Amiga Zone.
If you want to "subscribe" to it, simply go to the [m]essage menu
and then use the [u]pdate command to add it to your subscriptions.
Then, like any of our other message bases, you can read or scan
them interactively online, use the QWK packet download feature to
download them and read them offline with any QWK-enabled reader
(such as Q-Blue or AmiQWK for the Amiga), or of course you can
use the Amiga Zone's lovely Webbalized interface at
http://amigazone.com and just click your way to reading satisfaction :)
Also accessible via the Amiga Zone is the calweb.fantasears newsgroup
an internal-only CalWeb newsgroup not available on Internet's usenet.
From the Amiga Zone's main menu, go to the [j]oin menu and then to
[L]ist, where once again you'll see:
0. All conferences 1. Amiga Zone Conferences
2. Amiga Mailing Lists 3. Amiga Usenet Newsgroups
4. Vendors Forums 5. CalWeb Newsgroups
6. General Newsgroups 7. Toaster-LightWave
8. Amiga Fidonet Echos 9. Other Fidonet Conferences
Select 5 and you'll see this menu:
150. calweb.announce 151. calweb.fantasears
152. calweb.general 153. calweb.help
154. calweb.test
Number 151 is the CalWeb newsgroup for FANtasEARS Disney Fan Club
messages. If you want to "subscribe" to it, go to the [m]essage menu
and then use the [u]pdate command to add it to your subscriptions.
I hope you enjoy this new feature and I thank Harv and Steve for
adding the Disney Echo and calweb.fantasears newsgroup to the Amiga
Zone.
