If he's a really good mechanic and LIKES Mini's he doesn't want you to
destroy it by trying to change things like engines and suspension.
The Mini is already a very good handling car and almost anything you
change will make it worse.
My only suggestion would be to drive it easy and carefully until you
understand more about it.  I see NO justification for taking a
relatively rare car and screwing it up with inept modifications.
