I'm in north Texas.  That's why I can't imagine needing a triple.  I've done 
some traveling in central Connecticut and I imagine central Mass looks very 
similar.  Yeah, a triple would be nice for the occasional straight up hill.

Or just run the tires softer maybe?  With 23's, you'll have to run them at at 
least 120 lbs. or you'll have problems with pinch flats.  You may just have 
to buy the bike to find out if it's going to be a problem.  Can you buy it 
without the suspension and add it later if it's necessary?
