-> -> Lurker warning: Read no further if you hate discussions of what -> is or isn't prog. -> -> On 08-10-97 JOHN WITTERSHEIM wrote to MATHIEU BOUCHARD... -> -> JW> Alternate/Progressive??? Hello! This is about Progressive Rock -> of the JW> 60's/70's not that crap! Right? -> -> Actually, it's about that crap, too, if there's a logical -> link. Some of the Swedish prog bands these days have a -> sort of alternative connection (e.g. Anekdoten, -> Landberk). -> -> Officially the echo is about prog rock from no matter -> what decade. The 60s/70s label is a bit of a misnomer. -> -> JW> Alternate rock is all garbage to me. -> -> Fair enough, but prog rock is such a broad category that -> there probably isn't a single person who likes all -> sub-genres. However, to do justice to the topic of prog, -> the echo has to allow discussion of all the sub-genres, -> which means there's something for everybody to hate. -> Tough toenails. If it's any consolation, prog metal like -> Queensryche and Dream Theater really gives me hives. On -> the other hand, I would be *really* happy to see a -> thriving prog-metal discussion going here, since they -> got a right to party like the rest of us. -> -> Mind, I'm not saying "alternative" rock (dead in the -> water now, anyway) is a wide open topic but if anyone -> here can make a plausible and logical connection to prog -> in discussing it (which I thought Mathieu did), then I -> have no problem with it. -> -> Have you heard "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden or -> "Breaking the Girl" by RHCP? THese are pretty proggy for -> top 40, no? -> -> JW> But Progressive ROCK of the 70's! No Metal,Not Progressive -> Metal, just JW> the Great's -> -> Actually, we can talk about the crap here, too, as long -> as it's prog or related. I can tell you a million reasons -> why Asia eat the crust off of three week old dog vomit on -> a hot July sidewalk, but I still have to allow discussion -> of them here, and I don't really have a problem with it, -> either. PageDown is a powerful key. -> -> JW> like:Genesis,Yes,Pink Floyd(real ACID -> JW> ROCK),Camel,Marillion,Kayak,King Crimson,Caravan,FM,PFM,etc. Are -> all -> JW> great examples of PURE PROG ROCK! -> -> True words. These are all great bands and discussion of -> them is highly encouraged. Go for it. -> -> JW> Check out some of the Prog bands of -> JW> Kinesis Inc. 1430 Wisp Ct., HANOVER, MD 21076 and order their -> free -> JW> catalog,or visit their WEB SITE:www.kinesiscd.com(info@kinesiscd -> -> Ever check out However? They were a fine band, released -> on Kinesis. Sort of Gentle Giant crossed with Henry Cow. -> -> BTW, you sure you ain't got no 8-track dupes you want -> to trade? Any quads? -> -> Cheers, -> Kenneth -> -> NP: Finesterre _In Limine_ a fine album released last year. If -> you like PFM or old Genesis you could dig these guys.Very -> romantic symph with a bit of fire and a fine drummer. Check out-> http://www.pangea.it/music/mellow (Mellow is the name of the -> label in Italy, don't ask me why they chose a name that would -> conjure up images of Loggins and Messina) -> --- -> * OFFLINE 1.58 * Gotta have my Corn Pops... -> --- FidoPCB v1.4 [ff238/x] -> (1:229/510) I like However, their on the Kinesis sampler CD,Vol.1; a Vol.2 is released soon.no 8track dupes SORRY!. You like space rock? Fiona is spaced out Prog.
