Hi Fred:
After reading your original message a couple of weeks ago, I picked up the
only Upfield book our local library had available just to "try" him out. It
was "The Lake Frome Monster", and it was difficult to put the thing down
until finished.
Thanks for the information on this author. It came at just the right time
as I was sort of between favorites and needed someone else to read for
awhile. This fellow reminds me a bit of Nevil Shute where style is
concerned, and Shute is one of my favorites. Have read everything of his
that is in print.
Our library (Washington County Library Assn.) has only four of Upfield's
books in their system. So I got on the computer and went into the Portland
Public Library files (just over the county line) and found they have 30 in
their stacks. So will be able to get them to read by requesting those I
want through a computer hold. Should keep me busy for awhile.
My wife and I have visited a great many islands in the South Pacific over
the years, but we never did get to the continent of Australia. Our youngest
son who will be 48 in a few days, lived there for nearly 10 years and
toured the entire continent both ways in a mini-van (caravan) over a couple
of years.
Thanks again and Regards,
Bert
