Keep history in mind.
There are probably seven different revisions of the ST motherboard out
there, and nearly as many for the TT. Even the Lynx became the Lynx II.
Atari constantly tinkers with their hardware, trying to cut a corner
here or there to save money.
I suspect that current Jaguar units may soon be replaced by Jag+CD
all-in-one consoles, saving some money by not having to make separate
units, separate packages, separate shipping and seperate markets.
Remember, the Jaguar console alone debuted for $249. Today, they can
sell the Jag with CD for $249.
This would likely continue till the Jag-II is actually released... who
knows when.
