Sometimes I do it backwards. I see a nifty component, buy it, and write a
program around it. That's how I ended up writing my text editor "Prolix" - I
bought Orpheus from TurboPower and wrote Prolix as an excuse to play with
their editor component.
At the time, knowing only what I knew, it was probably a foolish purchase.
However, since then it's proven to have been a good idea since commercial
sales of Prolix have long since paid for the library (and the compiler and
the hard drive and the caffiene habit and the llama...).
I've considered doing something similar with their Async library, since at
this point I'd rather purchase a library and whip together my own comm
program than purchase a replacement for the venerable QModem 5.0 (1992, gasp)
that I'm still using. Several Prolix users have asked me to do it, as well. I
just don't think the market is there anymore.
Can you tell it's late? I'll shut up now.
