So ... you've now been told about Realiser, VX-REXX and Visual REXX.
But if BASIC is your thing, then you should also take a look at JBA
Guidelines.
The main programming language used in Guidelines, JOT, bears a strong
resemblance to Visual BASIC, with forms, controls, properties, events,
methods, strings, images, ... all that jazz.
For example, here is the code to change the contents of an entry field
when you click on a button :
VOID Frame1.PushButton1.Click ()
Frame1.EntryField1.Text = "The button was clicked"
END
You can obtain the JBA Guidelines Base Pack version 3.1 (GBASE31n.ZIP
and GBASEDOC.ZIP) for evaluation from Fidonet (it's on the Fernwood
Filebone, so any site around the world taking that filebone should
have it available for FREQ) or from CompuServe in OS2AVEN (the
official support forum for JBA Guidelines).
Version 3.2 is due out sometime within the next couple of months.
For the advanced developer, additional packs, covering areas from
AS/400 connectivity to DB2/2 support, including specialised controls
such as digital clocks, grids, and toolbars, and extension function
libraries for such areas as financial and calendar work, are available
from JBA.
