Bonjour, Jason!

Suite au message de Jason Hendriks a Stewart Davis:

JH> I am constantly hearing people refer to the speed of a video card by
JH> how much RAM it has. Someone correct if I'm wrong, but isn't this
JH> false? The amount of RAM on a video card controls only it's maximum
JH> resolution and colour combinations; not how fast it updates the
 JH> screen.

Yes, but it you have more RAM, you can sometimes store two pages.
When you copy objects, it's faster to copy from video memory to video
memory than from PC RAM to video memory.
However, I don't know any program that actually does take advantage of
this. But I know DIVE allows this.

JH> Granted, if you have a card with lots of memory, chances are it IS a
JH> fast card already, but I always hear people say, "Oh, I'm going to
JH> put 2 megs of RAM on my video card so that DOOM will run faster,'
JH> which makes ZERO sense to me.

I don't think DOOM uses additionnal video memory.

A bientot !
