JH>I am constantly hearing people refer to the speed of a video card by how
JH>much RAM it has. Someone correct if I'm wrong, but isn't this false? The
JH>amount of RAM on a video card controls only it's maximum resolution and
JH>colour combinations; not how fast it updates the screen.

JH>Granted, if you have a card with lots of memory, chances are it IS a fast
JH>card already, but I always hear people say, "Oh, I'm going to
put 2 megs of
JH>RAM on my video card so that DOOM will run faster,' which makes ZERO sense
JH>to me.

I believe there are some cards which will run a high resolution
with less memory by using the memory for half a screen at a time.
Those cards will be faster at that resolution with more memory.

Adding more memory for straight VGA won't change a thing. All
cards have enough memory for that.
