Not quite the question Patrick asked, but something to that line.....

Why, with all OS/2 programs that play Audio CD's I only get the CD-ROM to
EJECT, and I can't get it to close the CD-ROM door again.

It only works one way....  All DOS programs can open and close my CD-ROM door.
