Hi, Anita, and welcome to Parrots! I'm the moderator. In my opinion, a
vet who owns birds and breeds them is pretty close to being an avian vet
already! One of the best vets I ever worked with naturally didn't start
out as an avian vet, but he was interested in learning. I allowed him
(with the exception of certain situations which he understood and
accepted) to learn on my birds. We had a good working relationship
(until he moved clear across the country for the chance to open his own
clinic...). IMHO, there IS no such thing as an avian expert, but
anybody who is willing to try to learn is badly needed--there just
aren't enough avian vets out there!
What kind(s) of birds do you have? I've got cockatiels, jenday conures,
and cherry-headed conures.
Welcome aboard!
