PE>> The thing is that squish remaps a message to "Rod Speed" PE>> to 3:711/934.2, whether the message was sent to 3:711/934, PE>> 3:711/934.1, 3:711/934.3, 3:711/934.4 etc etc, understand? RS> I cant see the problem, I dont give a damn if someone fucks up the RS> address so badly that the wrong point number is used. In fact thats RS> fine by me, no valid reason to send it to the wrong address, that RS> may be someone who doesnt bother to pick up his PKTs or something. RS> Makes heaps more sense to send them to me whatever address is used. PE> For the same reason that Dave Hatch doesn't remap messages to PE> "Paul Edwards" sent to 3:711/809.4 to me at 3:711/934.9 instead. Nope, that has nothing whatever to do with it. The Fido addressing system has allowed for 3D addresses forever. Nothing to do with why remaps are useful on a BBS which has points. Nothing. PE> I don't consider point addresses to be any different to 3:711/411, PE> just another node on the network. You can consider it however you like. The whole point of remaps tho is because the fido support for 4D addressing is less than perfect. THATs why you have remaps. PE> If Fidonet said that there is only to be one Paul Edwards in the PE> world, and he is to reside at 3:711/934.9, then the entire world can PE> put remaps in to send any incorrectly addressed mail to 3:711/934.9. Thats a completely different problem. Nothing whatever to do with the fact that 4D addressing came later and that because it came later some kludges are necessary even now. PE> The address is there for a reason, it's because Fidonet doesn't PE> operate like that, and I don't like having to interfere with normal PE> addressing. THAT's the problem. Nope, absolutely nothing like the problem. The problem is that 4D addressing came later. Support for it is currently less than total. --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
