While tripping merrily through the mail, JERRY ROBERTS was overheard
PH> How big of an engine could you put in a 66 plymouth valiant?
PH> Right now it has a slanted 6.....
JR> Many moons ago, 1965, I had a Dodge Dart GTS (a red-headed step child
JR> of the Valiant) and it came with a 273 cu in. 235 horsepower right from
JR> the show-room floor. It was a screamer, I remember in my younger days I
JR> use to go looking for the Chevy 283's and Ford 289's. It was sleeper to
 JR> end all sleepers.
JR> There are probably others ie; 318 cu in that would fit also..
A Man after my own heart :-) (I had a '64 GT ragtop, biggest engine you
could get then was a 225 slant.)
At one time we did some measuring, and determined a 318 would have probably
bolted right in. In '66 I believe the 318 was actually available as an
option.
