Hi Dale,

DS> Suggestion -- since you are still an RC, why don't you take the
DS> initiative to start a discussion, e.g. in REGCON.

......;-) I wondered how long it would take before someone
suggested something like that. IMHO, REGCON is not guaranteed to be a well
connected echo in all parts of Fidonet, and the "new"
"RC" Echo that started at that time had similar issues with
distribution. Unfortunately 2 RC Echo's only split the RC's attention,
exactly what was NOT wanted at that time. The traffic I have seen in REGCON
over the past couple of years has been but a trickle (perhaps a dozen
RC's??) of what is required to reach a significant number of RC's. No, they
only way I can see to reach a reasonable number of RC's is via Netmail, and
the second major issue there is language, we would have to ensure we
covered a large diverse language base as well.

IMHO the best way to tackle the issue over language diversity of the RC's
is at the Zone level, however then you come up against posssible ZC
interference as well. Perhaps this could be started by a query to all ZC's
regarding their level of contact with the RC's of their Zones?

DS> Make the proposal as simple as you like. You could do nothing
DS> more than change the wording with respect to fidonews editor.

I very nearly did exactly this with the last vote, I prepared a Netmail for
all RC's explaining what was being attempted, but I never sent it as it
really needed translation into several other languages to be really useful.
The English speaking world is easy, but it is not the largest part of the
Fidonet RC group. That plus the variations on the proposal that kept coming
out made it hard to pin down exactly what was going on.

Cheers.........pk.
