Legislative Updates for CT & UT.
CONNECTICUT:
America's shooting ranges are under fire like never before! In
what has become a disturbing trend, more and more of these
facilities have been forced to close due to local noise
ordinances or nuisance lawsuits aimed at shutting them down. The
State Legislature's Public Safety Committee will soon consider
legislation which would safeguard Connecticut's long established
shooting ranges and help keep them open. It is critical that we
protect these facilities, as they are a valuable community
resource. Not only do they serve as place for our law
enforcement officers to train, but they provide a place for
people to learn how to shoot safely. Isn't it time Connecticut
joined the 28 other states with range protection laws on the
books?
Please contact the members of the Public Safety Committee and
urge them to support Range Protection legislation.

UTAH:
In Utah, the Senate Judiciary Committee will soon consider SB 57
which would prohibit lawful carry permit holders from carrying
their handgun on private property without the explicit permission
of the owner as well as in churches. Additionally, carrying on
school property would also be banned unless you were dropping off
or picking up an individual.
Truly, this type of legislation does nothing to reduce crime and
criminal behavior. State law already prohibits the carrying of
firearms on school premises, unless you are a licensed right to
carry permit holder. Also, churches already have the authority
under existing Utah trespass laws to post a prohibition on
carrying firearms and the same holds true for private property
owners. So what's the problem? No problem! Amazingly, even
the sponsor of this bill, was quoted as saying: "There is zero
evidence that we have a problem here that needs to be solved."
