subject: bad netmail

BL> At present, I have two ways to send netmail: use the netmail
BL> area (address optional),

BG> That's OK if the recipient is calling the same board, but
BG> without an address, how would it be routed through other nodes?

RS> Some systems, packet radio in particular, actually keep a full
RS> record of where each name was last heard from. So you could then
RS> just use the last occurrence of what it was last seen from.

BG> Until RTL added the middle T, there were two Ron Lewis' posting not
BG> just from Brisbane, but in some instances, from the same BBS (640/820).

Sure, but its theoretically possible for an auto system to recognise
that that is happening. And say offer you a choice of which you meant.

BG> Without any addressing info, I doubt that any system could unravel
BG> the mess which would result if they both sent netmail to the same
BL> destination.

Sure, I wouldnt do it that way.

RS> Main problem with Fido is the duplicate personal name problem.

BG> Yep, and without 4D addressing, there's no easy solution.

Dunno, its not quite as bad as it first looks. Rather messy tho.

BG> No matter, I doubt it's a particularly common situation in Oz just yet.

You could just shoot one of them too.
