TW>Long time no see me, eh? How ya been?
Busy! Two baby jendays are keeping me hopping, plus the 2 greyhounds,
volunteer work and doing the occasional web page to earn a few bucks (I
LOVE working at home!!!)
TW> KJ> much or how little I give them. When they begin to wean and take in
TW> KJ> a bit of solid food, they begin to cease the barfing.
TW>Rather than use the word "barf" I would rather use the word "regurgitate".
TW>As you know, I'm not an experienced breeder, but have hand fed only ONE
TW>AG.
I know, you're a stickler for accuracy!
TW>It is my understanding that as babies approach weaning they tend to
TW>regurgitate. At least that is what I observed (with my little one) and
TW>what my Avian vet told me. It is a natural reaction to wanting/needing
TW>solid food. If you examine your post, you state that this happened at
TW>around 5 weeks old. Some AG's are known to wean near 8 weeks tho 12 weeks
TW>is more common. However, as you know, weaning is not like a switch. It
TW>is a progression. So the process may start at 5 weeks ... eh?
Well, at 5 weeks, a Jenday is NO where near weaning--no feathers, no
coordination, unable to pick up and chew food yet--I don't know if it's
related to that or not. I do know that as they begin to master the
above capabilities, they seem to quit the regurtitation gradually. But I
don't know what triggers the start of the behavior.
TW>I see no reason to fight their natural tendancy to "upchuck"! ... except
TW>to recognize it as the start of weaning ... a good (albeit messy) sign ...
Well, besides being unnerving when they do it, it IS messy and they end
up needing baths (which I'm reluctant to give them when they're so
young).
So...where have you been hiding lately???
Have you heard from Reg at all?
