I'm not really sure, to be honest.  I do know that they like to have a cave 
or plastic tube to hide in.  Most pet stores will sell clear tubes for them.  
Apparently they are dependent more on sound than sight, so they think they 
are hidden as long as they hear an echo.  If you have enough hiding places I 
imagine you could keep more than one.
