I'm not an OS/2 user... but I have had problems with my Adaptec 1542
 card fighting with my soundcard.
The SCSI card wants port 330, which is also the default MIDI port on
every sound card I've ever seen.
Naturally, this doesn't work very well when you have both devices in
one machine. To make matters worse, the 1542 and certain drivers
basically refused to work at anything but 330, so the sound card
had to move to port 320.
Some games and other programs don't like port 320 or don't have any
way of setting which port they should use.
You may be experiencing some kind of conflict related to this, somehow,
even though you aren't trying to play MIDI.
 Hope this helps!
