subject: Atari 8-bit hardware

I've been toying with the idea of putting together an Atari 8-bit system
again for some time now. I remember on the last system I had, a 130XE, that
there was a major hardware addition made by Robert Puff that had given HDD and
standard RS-232 interface access plus some other things to the system. If I'm
going to invest again I'm definitely going to need something of the sort, so I
was kind of wondering how much something like this might go for now days, if
anybody knows. Also wondering how easy it might be to set up hardware on one
to enable an ethernet link, or if any software might've been developed for them
that might allow something like SLIP or PPP over a serial or parallel
connection. If I'm going to use money on antiquated hardware I might as well
make sure that it's going to be somewhat useful in this day and age for me.
Also, anybody out there using any Atari hardware higher than 8-bit, like
any of the ST models or the TT? I can't remember any other of their models,
but I know there were a few more, too.
God the nostalgia for the system that I first learned computing and coding
on. :) What did you guys start out with?
