Hi Jerry!
You said to to Paul Wankadia:
PW> I wonder if anyone's writing "makefiles for Dummies".
JC> They don't put insulting epithets in their titles, but if
JC> memory serves, O'reilly and Associates has quite a nice book
JC> on make.
        Managing Projects with Make
        Andrew Oram and Steve Talbott
        O'Reilly & Associates
Second Edition, 1991 with minor corrections 1993
        ISBN 0-937175-90-0
        $US17.95
JC> The major problem with writing about make is that make isn't
JC> a single program, and there's no standard ...
I eventually gave up trying to understand the subtle (and often unsubtle)
differences with WATCOM Make, and went back to GNU Make. If there's no
"real" standard, then fine, I can make GNU Make =my= standard. It's good
enough, it has been ported to every platform I work on, and it's free.
                  Gary
