subject: NULL TERMINATED KLUDGES

HS>> What is the Rule of thumb in FTN pkts and *.MSG having Fido Control
HS>> Lines (^a line) end with a Null terminated character?

ML> it is invalid...

HS> So why is FRODO spitting that out?

because the key generator puts a null character at the end of the serial
number that it generates. i can only guess that FD reads a specific
number of characters or something... either that or the key generator
actually patches the FD executables...

HS>> I came across a Frontdoor system that is puting a NULL at the end of
HS>> a PID line.

ML> because the hacked key generator they used is in error..

HS> Really, Hacked? No shit... thats probably why that dude did not
HS> respond to my message.. hahahahahah, I am going to pull again to see
HS> if he wised up.

HS> But why is FRODO spitting out invalid FTS-1 mail? Frodo checks for
HS> nulls in the EMSI storage of the key, where it is less important,
HS> why not do it also in the PID?

see above... it's not joho's fault... it is the fault of the key
generator putting a null in when it shouldn't ;-)

HS>> This is violating FTS-1. Right?

ML> yep ... as well as the FD licensing agreement...

ML> bounce the invalid mail WITHOUT altering your processing code to
ML> 'repair' the message... in other words, bounce them back an empty
ML> message conatining only what you can get before the nul knocks you
ML> out...

HS> You're asking me to add special logic to honor Frodo's registration
HS> logic? I don't understand your request. The message was KILLED as a
HS> empty message because of the null. I am not going to go into my

i bounce them when i catch them... it's easy enough to do... since there
is generally no tear line or origin line... but see? that's in echomail
where it is easier to catch them... netmail is much harder and you
didn't state if this problem was netmail or echomail based... i assumed
echomail...

HS> logic to check for a "Unexpected Null". Bullshit. You see, this is
HS> what I am talking about with you. You tell people what to do and
HS> yet, you don't have a clue about the practical nature of operations.

see above... your mind isn't open to other areas of thought... in this
case, i was assuming echomail. you can catch these in echomail...

ML> BTW: is this the first one of these you've seen? i've been
ML> watching/trapping them since a few months after FD v2.12 was
ML> released... where have you been?

HS> Well Mark, thats probably because I am not use to seeing SOFTWARE
HS> put INVALID FTS-1 mail, INVALID ADDRESSES, etc, etc. Maybe I should
HS> continue to hang around you to learn more about "Pirates"
and "Brain
HS> Dead" software :-)

hang around me? in the support and beta areas i participate in?
hehehahaha... uh... oops >

when are you going to comply with or drop support for FSC-0046?
