The Mirage of Biblical Dispensations There is no doubt that what Noah considered to be the proper worship of God, was not the same as that of Aaron. And Hosea, Jeremiah and Micah had a different view of the subject from both Noah and Aaron. And also, Bultmann and the author of the book of Hebrews also had their differences in points of view. When I think about man's theology (or his understanding of the supernatural), and how it varies so much and seems to change through history; I look at it as one would look at how an individual's understanding of the supernatural changes over his life time. It seems to grow as biological species grow and evolve as the various biological species evolve. Now, Shakespeare described the seven acts of man (the actor), from infant to schoolboy, lover, soldier, justice, old man to second childhood. (Though not all men follow the same script, nor play in all 7 acts.) But, what Shakespeare did not try to do was to say, "On this day, with this act the infant became a schoolboy, and then when this happened the lover became a soldier. Rather than a sudden change it was a more or less slow evolution of the man between Shakespeare's act one and act two and acts 3 and 4. I look at what some call "dispensations" as the evolution of the theology of some men, as described in Biblical literature. And as man better understood God, he better understood how God wanted him to act. I think God's idea of what man should be and how man should worship, did not change. But, what some call dispensations have to do with how man understood God. So when I read the Bible, I see the evolution of our theology rather than dispensations. ((( s.r.c.b-s is a moderated group.
