-> BJ> How does it affect YOU or your system if someone else is running

->
-> It doesn't. Who said it did?
You did, as quoted above. 'degrade their resources'.
-> BJ> I have 5x86-133 for the BBS, which allows me to toss mail in a
-> BJ> reasonably short time, AND to run a dialin node, 1 or 2 local nod
-> BJ> XTree and similar programs all at the same time, under Dos and
-> BJ> DV. The ONLY time my system is down is when the power fails, or
-> BJ> I take it down.
->
-> Put a CPU resource meter on your system and watch it for a while. Th
-> what's going on.
But my point is, what DIFFERENCE does it make what the CPU is doing,
IF it does the job. I play in the background, 2 or 3 windows open, and
the users never know I'm there. And I have y other system for 'heavy'
stuff like the Internet.
-> BJ> I even had Windows 3.1 running on it before I got my K5-100
-> system BJ> about 6 months ago, and could run WinFax and such while
-> the BBS had a BJ> user on-line, WHILE using Dos and DV.
->
-> Yeah, I know, Bud. I was running Windows back when you were swearing
-> was the greatest thing since peanut butter sandwiches. Remember how
-> to slam "Windoze"........
I STILL don't like Windows, but it's easier to do certain things with
it. Graphics Workshop for Dos does exactly the same job as the WIn
version, faster and with less load on the system. I COULD go with a
shell account on the Internet, run a dos-based program, AND get faster
FTP transfers and fewer system crashes, but I like seeing what people
are wasting them time doing with graphic web pages! :)
There is nothing I currently do in Windows that I couldn't do in Dos, IF
I wanted to.
But I realize that that WILL change one day, and I also needed to learn
more about WIn so I could answer questions my friends have.
I'll be installing a boot manager, with Win 95, Linux, and OS/2 Warp4
once I get a larger HD.
