Well, I tested it briefly when I first setup my BBS... and callers
using a RIP-capable comm program would do something innocent and
crash the board. Mind you, this was basically the default RIP
install of Maximus, so there weren't any weird things I might have
added.
Also, when I called other boards to see what RIP looked like
on their systems, the comm program would crash half the time
anyway. Tried several different RIP-capable programs and never
got any of them to work.
So ever since, RIP has been a synonym for crash in my BBS lexicon.

It doesn't take up that much space, really. Just Zip up the whole
directory and forget about it if you like.
On the other side, one of the RIP-capable comm programs was Hayes'
SmartCom, which is a real space eater and a pain to configure.
Another reason to not bother with RIP.
