It's good to see an Aussie supporting an Australian program, but like the
stupid Government Departments which insist on using and recommending Virus
Buster "because it's an Australian program" even though its detection usually
rates among the worst in the world, you're backing the wrong horse when you
recommend VET.
I'm a firm believer in "Buy Australian", but only if the Australian product
does the job as well as foreign products for around the same price.
VET DOESN'T!
VET may be the best anti-virus program YOU'VE used, but it's a long way from
being the best anti-virus program, period.
In Secure Computing's first report for 1998, which at long last shows some
sense by including a "full collection" test against >10,000 viruses, VET's
score is down near the bottom of the list at only 66.36%. and it costs
9.00.
The clear winner was the program which was consistently #1 in my tests (also
against >10,000 viruses, but probably not the same viruses) throughout 1997,
the brilliant Antiviral Toolkit Pro, with 96%, and it costs $55.00.
Surprisingly, TBAV and F-Prot, two programs I often recommend myself, didn't
do all that well, at 81% and 84.1% respectively.
The question was "Which is The Best Antiviral Program ?"
The correct answer is "AVP" !!!
