Hello Ross, MV>> I appriciate the offer, but thanks but no thanks. I am trying to get MV>> rid of the obsolete stuff myself. Last week I dumped half a dozen MV>> monitors, some printers and a scanner: > Are you dumping them in a environmentally friendly manner. I think I did. We have a functioning waste reclaim system here. There is levy on all goods that may involve a waste disposal problem. F.e. there is a EUR 10 levy on a TV and EUR 25 on a refrigerator. The flip side of the coin is that municipalities are compelled to accept them for free and process them in a responsible way. So I dropped them at the minicipal waste disposal site where they sort it out and process it properly. > Last year my employer teamed up with Hewlett Packard, we > advertised the fact and allowed customers to drop off their > old computer equipment, monitors, printers, computers etc, > once a week I shrunk wrapped them and sent them back on one of > our daily crossdock trucks, they were then forwarded to HP who > moved it to one of their reclaimation facilities. I am not > sure but if the stuff was refurbishable they would repair it > and donate it to charity, else the environmental nasties were > removed or rendered inert, rare metals extracted and the stuff > ground down and disposed of. I expect the same to happen with the monitors I dumped. > It was a success but the practice discontinued, it was labor > intensive. That is why over here it is not left to private initiative but regulated by law and under supervison of the authoriies.
