during the day/ can't stay awake during the day etc), they can stop the
carbon dioxide buildup by a CPAP machine. Some people (not just polios),
have been able to keep their jobs this way.
A lot of us were taught to feel guilty about doing things the easy way
when we were going through rehabilitation.
Unfortunately for me, when I started Uni in 1961, my Headaches began to
appear at 2am in the morning. If I didn't have something for them when
they were hard to distinguish between reality and imagination, I would
be a wipe out by about 10am. This was when I had a 9-5 timetable each
day of the week. By 10am I can remember making a spit ball in my mouth
to receive apc (aspirin, phenacitin, caffeine) powders in the middle of
lectures - my 4th of the day, but usually I took them with water.
After 6 powders I would know that I could not do any better, and just
cop the headache which was totally out of control and would last till
late evening.
I did become psychologically addicted. This took a number of years to
get over, after they had found that high Blood Pressure had caused a lot
of the headaches, but they still seemed to keep on.
Now I don't regard myself addicted to pain killers, but I do take
Panadeine Forte (Paracetamol 500mg and 32mg Codeine) when I have an
occasional persistent head ache that won't go away after first trying
panadol and finding that that does not work.
Likewise I take Nzeds like
Naproxen for tendonitis and joint aches, but am able to stop them when
things settle down. I also use acupuncture to help relieve such
problems. The tens, I think, operates like external acupuncture.
I don't feel guilty about giving in, because it is usually so obvious I
have no choice. But if you have never had to resort to remedies, it is a
bit jump.
Also, I have pushed myself so far in the past that I have found myself
in the positions where it is most uncomfortable (to say the least),
where I just run out of will power and mental energy to do and decide
things. Then I just have to have a rest, because the batteries are
totally flat. This is not a good situation or cycle to get into because
I am using up reserves, that are hard to replace, and can never be fully
replaced. This means that fatigue sets in more quickly next time. Apart
from that it goes against good proven advice.
So there is no need to feel guilty about asking for help when you really
need it.

It is a nice country, but we are resolutely following a lot of the
mistakes of the USA (which is usually a few years ahead of us), instead
of _only_ copying your good things. Interesting to hear that Paul
Hogan's ads were seen as well as we were told about here. Don't forget
to allow for a bit of advertiser's licence so that you won't be
disappointed when you get to see the real thing - which is OK too.
Sorry about the delay. My son had uni work to do on his computer, so I
was locked out a few weeks, then I had two weeks in hospital when they
cut an internal abscess out of my right buttock - right where I sit. It
is 8 weeks now, and it still looks as though it will be another month
before it heals from the inside, which the home nurses repack each day.
It looks as though that will be better before my left inside ankle which
has an ulcer on it caused by badly fitting callipers, I have been trying
to get fixed since Feb! The leg is in such a mess that I think that I
will be able to force the issue - hope. But I am a pretty got negotiator
who has failed on this one.
Thank goodness I don't have to contend with work, although my voluntary
work people would like me back as soon as possible.
regards
Allan
