Check your port speed -- Should be @ least 57600, but preferably 115200.
Most of the time, slow speeds are the result of line noise. The faster
the comm. speed, the more suseptible (Sp?) the connection is to errors
caused by line noise. The modem selects a speed based upon the line
noise level.
