subject: Garbage in the nodelist

Hello Ross.

I do not believe I am a servant but I do believe what I do should benefit
all Fidonet nodes and not just my region. If my regional segment was
created for just my region, why would I bother sending it to Janis for
inclusion? Likewise, if Z6's segment is for the sole benefit of Z6, then
why do they bother sending it to the rest of the ZCs for inclusion? They
could easily acomplish what they do by keeping it in private distribution
or a separate FTN.

It is precisely that attitude (xxxyyyzzz is none of your business) that
Fidonet is in the sad state of affairs it is today. Sure, there is a line
to how far someone is willing or capable of going to satisfy the needs of
the whole but it must be considered. What I see today is everyone doing
what is best for themselves and expecting the rest to "suck it
up". We are a network and the whole idea of networks is standards and
communciation.

If 3com ethernet cards could only communcation with 3com cards and smc
cards, smc cards could only communication with other smc cards and intel
cards, but intel cards could not commicate with 3com; then chances are,
ethernet would not be the standard widely used today since they make most
of the ethernet cards. Likewise, if the internet worked as badly as
fidonet, we would have given up on it long time ago.

I see his point, but he needs to be more tactful in expressing it perhaps?

Matt
