The ground here is rather alkali too. Its reclaimed dessert like where
you are. I don't know about the water. The ground water from around
here is slightly alkali but the water they use for irrigation is from
the mountains and I don't know about it.
They are planning on letting water into the canals pretty soon. Right
now they have runoff in them. They are pumping the water from the
floods off the farmlands into the canals. You should see the almond
bloosoms. They are gorgeous. The trees are white with them. I'm
surprised that there isn't going to be a ride through them (really
between them on the canal banks).
