I see from the discussion below that both machines have TCP/IP installed,
so we don't need to go any further with this.

Because PC IP stacks don't route.

I think that's your problem.  Change your NT machine to an unused address
in the same subnet, e.g, 192.168.0.50, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
