RW> Let me ask you something, do you know how much a truck driver can
RW> make today? I know several who made over $50K last year. Is that an
RW> IT position?
RB> Hey, you know how much an NFL player makes? That's not an IT
No but it is a job that very few people can hold. A
truck driver isn't.
RB> position either. But take a look in the want-ads and notice
RB> what jobs are left in the "General" columns ... pretty
RB> scarce pickings.
I have NEVER found a job from the want ads. Most of
the jobs in there are the type that nobody wants.
RW> couple of months or go with out cable TV maybe even any TV at all.
RW> but After a while you will start making more money of which you can
RW> save some to invest.
RB> And maybe I will. I plan on it, at least. But that doesn't
RB> change anything of what I'm talking about. I am lucky
RB> enough to have self-taught computer skills, and I can look
RB> in a different column in the want-ads than "general" ..
RB> before that, I was lucky enough that my dad's friend got me
RB> a construction job where I
RB> could learn how to roof and side, which is an okay job. But
You were LUCKY, really? Those "self-taught computer
skills" you talk about did you get them by luck or by
hard work? In that construction job were you LUCKY
enough that you were just handed a pay check every week
or did you have to show up at 4 a.m. and work your butt
off for the next 10-12 (or more) hours?
When you started that construction job were you LUCKY
enough to making top pay or did you start out at the
bottom?
RW> some companies were offering $50K+ starting, moving expenses and
RW> signing bonuses.
RB> Don't believe everything that you hear.
I believe this because I have second hand experience.
I also know that comp-si majors now are getting two or
three JOB offers where as not that long ago they were
lucky to get two or three interviews.
