NASA CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SOFTWARE OF THE YEAR AWARD

NASA's is accepting nominations for the Tenth Annual "NASA
Software of the Year Award." The competition is part of the agency's
effort to recognize exceptional software developed and owned by NASA.

The award is given to author(s) of scientific and technical software.
The software must have been supported, adopted, sponsored, or used by
NASA; be significant to NASA's aeronautical or space activities; and
officially released by NASA within the last three years.

All NASA Centers and Component Facilities, major contractors,
supporting universities and small businesses are eligible to
participate in this competition. Entries and supporting material must
be submitted electronically not later than April 18, 2003.
Information about the nomination process is available on the Internet
at:

http://icb.nasa.gov

A NASA Software Award Review Panel (SARP), comprised of agency
software development experts, will screen the entries. The SARP
submits selection(s) to NASA's Invention and Contributions Board
(ICB). The ICB recommends monetary awards.

Winners receive the NASA Software Medal, a certificate signed by the
Administrator, and a monetary award. The ICB may recommend an award up
to $100,000, depending on the value of the software to government and
industry. NASA officials will present the award later in the year. The
NASA ICB Web site contains information about previous competitions. It
is available at: http://icb.nasa.gov/nasaswy.html

Direct inquiries about the award process to the NASA Space Act Awards
Liaison Officer at any NASA Center or to NASA through the ICB Web
site.
