I read too many bad things about 1.93a and all incarnations of 2.04n prior
to the G rev. to even bother trying them.  2.04g has always proved to be
extremely stable and backwardly compatible here.

My pleasure.  In fact, I still use Shez quite a bit in a VDM, and it in
turn calls the DOS PKZip, so the only time I use the native OS/2 versions
is when they're called from my mail-tosser's batch-file.  AFA I'm
concerned, they both seem to work about the same anyway.
