subject: bugs in pqwk

Hi, Rod.

RS> PE> I presume the fact you decided to send me dupes today was purely
RS> PE> because of PQWK235 (where nnn = fucked), in the same way that
RS> PE> Brenton's dupes of a week ago or so were totally due to PQWK230,
RS> PE> and in neither case might the fuckwit using the fucking program
RS> PE> be in any way fucking responsible for fucking up my system?

RS> FM> I don't know whether it was PQWK235 or not, but I noticed
RS> FM> those dups fed back to me too - like reading a reply and
RS> FM> then the message to which it was replying.

RS> FM> More likely it was another of those OLX peculiarities
RS> FM> which I don't understand and Rod understands a bit of.

RS> The only time OLX will generate dupes is if you dont shut it down properly,
RS> either because of a power flick or user error like just turning the machine
RS> off without shutting OLX down. And if you reedit messages at all before
RS> they
RS> are sent, you usually see the telltale results of two messages not
RS> identical.
RS> From memory without checking all your dupes were true dupes.

I think so, too. And AFAIK I hadn't failed to shut OLX properly on that
occasion although I think that's the most likely answer.

RS> FM> I'd welcome any constructive suggestions to prevent this happening,

RS> Didnt happen this time, so it may have been just not exiting OLX properly
RS> one time.

I think that's the most likely explanation, but it's not what I
remember.

RS> FM> but, like you, I don't want to spend all day configuring and
RS> FM> customising software.

RS> Which is another reason why I dont generally drop in new releases
RS> unless there is a good reason too, it makes it hard to distinguish
RS> between an unusual occurrence in what you have been using or a new
RS> wart introduced when attempting to excise an earlier one.

Yep, my philosophy too. But I would count convenience for, say, Paul
as "a good reason" *if* I knew just what the 'upgrade' was supposed to
fix/change/whatever. Including the "Oh I might as well change that while
I'm here" and the "Hmmm I think this'll fix that problem - we'll see"
bits.

Regards, FIM.
