Hello Wayne,

[..]

>WC>In which event I've got it archived.
>LL>Keep it for future reference, same as rules for other echoes.

WC>Actually I trippped over the bookmark for the current document in
WC>my Misc folder.

Stuff happens. Usually not bad stuff. Just stuff. :)

[..]

>LL>"The Fidonews editor ... is the permanent moderator of this
echo."
>LL>- Bjorn Felten, Editor of the Fidonews newsletter, and the Permanent
>LL>Moderator of the Fidonews echo
>WC>Yes but not the zone 1 mod right?
>LL>There is no such animal.
>WC>Steve Asher begs to differ in a post to me in this very echo.
>LL>Not at all. He merely unlinked the fidonews echo (and a few other
>LL>echoes) from his BBS.

WC>OK, I inquired about that but he didn't address THAT point.

Not anything to lose any sleep over. The point is, Steve is happy.
As well as those who enjoy his BBS.

>WC>As I was led to believe those responsiblities are broken down into
>WC>regional authority.
>LL>The only authority that exists is the editor of the fidonews newsletter
>LL>and permanent moderator of the fidonews echo, Bjorn Felten, as stated
>LL>in the official rules of the fidonews echo (document cited above).
>WC>Well until I've an actual sysops word for it I can't risk another
>WC>BBS being cut due to myself posting there.
>LL>Bjorn Felten is a sysop. Does his word count?

WC>You Betcha.

Email sent. One that you will be sure to enjoy. Immensely. :)

>WC>Actually Cassell claims he no longer runs a BBS but rather instead
>WC>the Eastern Star NNTPD server.
>LL>Who cares?

WC>Not I.

Jimmy crack corn, I don't care. Jimmy crack corn, I don't care.
Jimmy crack corn, I don't care, my horse done won the Derby today!

>WC>Other people do have lives you know.
>LL>Time is a very precious commodity. How we spend it is up to us.
>WC>I'm largely bedridden with a computer at my side 18 inches away.
>LL>So is Stephen Hawking

WC>Had to bring HIM up!

He's a genius!

WC>That'sa about the ONLY time I feel I'm not so bad off.
WC>Are you aware those with his condition usaully don't survive past 19?

If they make it that far.

WC>Oh yeah and his latest thing about giant roving nomadic alien raider
WC>threats I find ridiculous.

It is not as far-fetched as one might think. Although his conclusions
might be a bit daffy, his reasoning is sound.

WC>In any case we've a few tens of thousands of years before they
WC>could ever get here unless they manage to circumvent the speed of
WC>light limitation.

Who says they haven't already been here? Who says they are not
here today? Erich Von Daniken has written much about the subject,
and documented many cases of what he believes has been visitations
by beings from somewhere other than Earth.

[..]

>WC>Well I can telnet into that BBS you suggested and ASK the sysop there.
>WC>ISTR synchonet boards being very Linux telnet compatable.

I sent you a better one. Check email. :)

>LL>Be kind. Especially to your web-footed friends. Let them know
>LL>what echoes you are interested in, and most sysops would be glad
>LL>to help (including adding an echo if you ask nicely). Those who
>LL>refuse to be of help aren't worth the bother, in which case you
>LL>simply move on to another BBS. :)

WC>Hey and Lee, I just ordered my new motherboard this morning for
WC>3 day UPS delivery.

If it is in stock. If not, well, you might have to wait a tad longer.
Had that problem a few years ago. Ordered a guitar. Company said it
was in stock, and would arrive within a few days. The "few days" turned
out to be much longer than that, and I wound up making a deal to get
a better guitar at the same price rather than waiting for the one I
had originally ordered. And then I gave the guitar away to a friend
who had joined the Army.

WC>An internet google search for problems related to this board came
WC>up returning a mere 201 links and most of those caught were the result
WC>of "no problems."
WC>Check out the stats AM3/AM2+/AM2 up to DDR2 1066 or even DDR3
WC>Max processor 140 watt multicore.
WC>I'm going with an AMD dual core 64 5200 Brisbane and two
WC>sticks of DDR2 Crucial SDRAM memory 1024 800 to start off
WC>3 USB2 with cable and six more headers on the M.B.
WC>2xPCI/2xPCIe1/2xPCIe16 slots
WC>1xATA IDE master - slave
WC>6xSATA II
WC>So I'm moving from a 1998 IBM 32 bit Aptiva with 450 MHz Pentium II Deshutes
WC>alpha
WC>to a 2.7 GHz AMD dual core 64 bit!
WC>A pretty fair jump in performance I can expect no? ;-)
WC>Oh baby!

You are making that linux box of yours scream. :)
